James Jing yi Jiang
Principle | The Office of New Expression
James Jing Yi Jiang is a Canadian and US registered architect and founder of The Office of New Expression (TONE Office), an interdisciplinary design practice.
He holds a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and has worked across internationally recognized practices in the United States, China, and Canada. He began his professional career at Zaha Hadid Architects and MAD Architects before spending five years at Gehry Partners, where he worked closely with Frank Gehry on several of his later projects. He later joined DIALOG in Vancouver before forming TONE Office. He is also engaged in academia through teaching and thesis critiques.
TONE Office brings together architecture, design research, art, and theory as a platform for exploring new forms of expression. The practice works across different scales and disciplines, connecting architecture with visual culture, technology, and broader cultural contexts. Drawing on these experiences across academia and practice, James is particularly interested in supporting SALA students as they navigate academic exploration, professional practice, and long-term career development.
